Raging Wolf 10 (11/6/2010)

Raging Wolf 10 offers us Luigi Fiorvanti and Jay Adams announcing from the WOLFTAGON. Fuck me. Really? 3 pro fights as RAGING WOLF IS GROWING. When I think growing, I think booking shitty Irish fighters, Tonya Evinger, and having almost no pro bouts. More of these shows look like pro boxing shows set up for TV, even when they aren't.

1) Eddie Weiser vs. Kevin Ayers: Amateur middleweights.

FIGHT: Weiser TKO Rnd 1. KOTC special. Weiser just walks straight through Ayers to get the single and slam and then bashes him out with strikes. Meaningless looking. (0)

2) Matt Dimarcantonio vs. Kevin Cummings: More amateurs at lightweight.

FIGHT: Dimarcantonio Unanimous Decision. Dimarcantonio is a wrestler who takes guys down. Its a good thing these are amateur fights because he's deeply flawed in terms of leaving limbs and his neck out there. He had his head positioned for Cummings to lock up the guillotine in round 2 and Cummings didn't see it. In the third round, Dimarcantonio survived a triangle attempt and a knee bar that weren't really solidly locked in. (0)

3) Eric Attard vs. Thomas Egan: Why spend money on this fight? Honestly. Egan was torn to shreds by John Hathaway and has apparently moved to Massachusetts since to train, which is wise and makes him cheap. Attard is merely 2-0.

FIGHT: Egan TKO Rnd 2. Attard really wasn't all that competitive here. The best he could do was drive for a single for about a minute straight and that went nowhere. Egan was able to tool him on the mat so far as positioning went and also owned the standing exchanges. After Egan gets the fight to the mat in the second, he ends up riding Attard's back for awhile throwing punches until the ref is forced to step in. Winner here (Egan) supposedly gets a title shot with Nuri Shakur, which was the bout originally scheduled until derailed by a hand injury. (1)

4) Matt McCook vs. John Franchi: Featherweights. I think one of these guys is a WEC vet?

FIGHT: Franchi Unanimous Decision. Man, the announcers talk this up as the fight of the night, which tells you how lame the fight was. McCook's best strikes were all hammerfists from his back. I mean, really, that's what they were. He spent almost the entire fight on his back and aside from a triangle attempt that went nowhere, he was basically being controlled almost the entire time. There was a 30-27 card and that wasn't absurd at all. Franchi has some good throws and trips but he's not an explosive wrestler in a sport where the grapplers who are successful shoot generally shoot blast doubles (Edgar, Evans, GSP, Penn) or are overpowering strength wise (Lesnar, Sonnen, Hughes, Okami, Maynard). Top control grapplers who are finesse guys rarely make it to the top. (0)

5) Tonya Evinger vs. Alexis Davis: This is a rematch of a bout Davis won the first time after having shown up overweight. This time, both are on weight and so we have a title fight.

FIGHT: Davis Submission Rnd 1. Evinger's standup is bizarre, and so it doesn't surprise me that Davis gets to the clinch without much action. She trips Evinger, gets to the back, body triangle, rear naked choke. Davis would be a good gatekeeper in Strikeforce if they had a need for such a fighter. (2)

FIGHT OF THE NIGHT: McCook/Franchi

KO OF THE NIGHT: Weiser/Ayers

SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT: Davis/Evinger

OVERALL FOR THE EVENT: 2.5 out of 10. Honestly, this show sucks. Second tier women's bout at 135 headlines and lasts one mediocre minute along with some crap fights featuring garbage fighters. Strong suggestion to avoid.

D&R Rating: 12% (3/25)
